- security
- holding tightly
- saving
- control over resources
What this card is
The Four of Pentacles shows a figure clutching one coin to his chest, one balanced on his head, and two pinned under his feet, gripping all four rather than circulating any of them. It's the suit's card of security that's tipped into control, holding onto resources so tightly that nothing, including growth, can move through them. The posture is defensive rather than relaxed.
Four of Pentacles
- security
- holding tightly
- saving
- control over resources
- caution
The Four of Pentacles means holding on tightly to security. It shows up as saving hard, protecting what you have, or being very cautious with money, time, or feelings. Some caution is wise, but too much keeps you from growing. Keep your safety net, and let yourself spend, share, or risk a little where it matters. A cat guarding its food bowl is safe but not having much fun.
Being possessive or guarded in a relationship. Loosen your grip and trust a little more.
Holding on to a job purely for security. Ask whether it's limiting your growth.
Saving and financial security. Keep saving, but budget for some enjoyment too.
Four of Pentacles reversed
- loosening control
- releasing scarcity
- letting go of what you've been gripping
- generosity returning
- unhealthy hoarding
Reversed, the Four of Pentacles means either loosening your grip, or holding on in an unhealthy way. It looks like finally spending on something that matters, or clinging to control and money out of fear. Decide where you can safely relax and where you still need to be careful. Don't swing from hoarding straight into overspending.
Opening up after being guarded. Keep letting them in.
Letting go of control at work. Delegate and trust your team.
Loosening financial control, or spending too freely. Find a middle ground.
