What this card is
Cups is the suit of feeling, love, and intuition, the suit that answers what a person feels. The Ace of Cups shows a hand emerging from a cloud holding an overflowing cup, a dove descending toward it, water cascading down in five streams. As the suit's first card, it's an emotional capacity opening up before it's attached to any one person or situation yet.
Ace of Cups
- new love
- emotional openness
- overflowing feeling
- compassion
- the start of something heartfelt
The Ace of Cups means a new emotional beginning: new love, a deep connection, or a wave of compassion. It shows up as a new relationship, a reconciliation, a close new friendship, or simply opening up after a closed-off stretch. Let yourself feel it. Say how you feel, accept affection when it's offered, and stay open to connection. A cat that finally curls up on your lap has decided to trust you.
A new romance, or a relationship getting deeper. Open up and let it grow.
Work that feels emotionally rewarding, or a creative project with heart. Pursue it.
Generosity, or money given with care. Give or receive it with an open heart.
Ace of Cups reversed
- blocked emotion
- guarded heart
- suppressed feeling
- emotional emptiness
- love withheld
Reversed, the Ace of Cups means emotions that are blocked or held back. It looks like staying guarded after being hurt, feeling emotionally empty, or not letting someone in even though they're trying. Notice what you're protecting yourself from. Share one honest feeling with someone you trust, and give yourself time to heal before forcing a new connection.
Holding back your feelings, or feeling unloved. Tell them one honest thing you've been keeping in.
Feeling emotionally disconnected from your work. Write down what used to make it meaningful and look for that again.
Emotional spending to fill a gap. Deal with the feeling instead of shopping.
